Arsenal are stepping up its attempt to sign a striker this summer, according to reports. The club has been disappointed in its pursuit of a striker so far but it appears Wenger is about to find a breakthrough.
According to Italian news outlet Corriere Dello Sport via the Daily Express, Wenger has turned his attentions to Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.
It is believed the Gunners have moved to sign the striker after giving up on its attempt to sign Gonzalo Higuain. The club sees Icardi as a cheaper option as the 23-year-old is valued at £42m.
According to the report, Icardi’s agent Wanda Nara is due to arrive in London on to hold talks with Arsenal over a potential move to the Emirates.
Wanda has previously revealed her client would be open to a move away from the San Siro and she could now push for her client to join Arsenal after the Gunners registered it’s interest.
Wenger is very keen on signing a striker and has been frustrated in its attempts to sign one. The likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Alvaro Morata, Jamie Vardy and Alexandre Lacazette have been linked with a move to Arsenal but none have been fruitful. Wenger has already completed the signing of Japanese striker Takuma Asano but the young forward is not expected to play a key role in the Gunners first team next season, hence Wenger’s need for a top striker.
