Arsene Wenger appears to be very keen on Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, if reports coming out from Italy are to be believed.
The 23 year old striker is being linked with a move to the Emirates and it is believed Wenger is very keen on his services.
Wenger was in the race to sign Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain but was put off by Napoli’s asking price and reports claim he has now turned to Icardi who appears to be a cheaper option.
It was reported that Icardi’s agent Wanda Nara was expected in London on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of a move with Arsenal.
Now, Italian news Outlet Corriere Dello Sport (via the Daily Star) are claiming Arsenal are prepared to offer Icardi a salary package of about £96,000 a week should he complete a move to the Emirates. This will represent a considerable increase on his £61,000 a week salary which he currently earns at Inter.
Arsenal would then be expected to agree a fee with Inter Milan and it is believed the Serie A club would demand between £38m and £42m for Icardi’s services. The Italian giants are reluctant to sell the defender and might play hardball during negotiations.
Icardi has been impressive for Inter in the last couple of seasons and at 23, he has an enormous potential and can be one of the best in the future. He would be a great addition to the squad, providing competition and cover for Olivier Giroud.
