Arsenal have made a move to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter, according to reports.
Wenger is believed to be keen on a centre back as he searches for a long term replacement to Mertesacker.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that the Gunners were keeping tabs on the 22-year-old defender. It was claimed the Gunners were prepared to table a £10m bid for his services. It appears the club have now made a concrete offer for the defender as German Publication SportBild via the Express, claims the Gunners have made a “lucrative offer” to sign the defender.
Ginter is regarded as one of the best talents in the Bundesliga but has struggled to make his mark at BVB. Bundesliga side, Hamburg are also interested in the defender but Bild claims the Budesliga club have been blown out of the race due to lucrative offers from the Premier League.
Wolfsburg, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are also being linked with the defender and could rival Arsenal for his signature.
Wenger is believed to be very keen on a young centre back with enough quality to partner Koscielny next season. Wenger is still on the look out for a defender despite being on the verge of completing the signing of 20 year old Bolton international Rob Holding.
