Negotiation between AS Roma and Arsenal over the services of Wojciech Szczesny is on the verge of collapse, according to reports.
The goalkeeper spent last season on loan at the Italian club and was impressive. The Serie A club had been hoping to sign Szczesny on a permanent deal this summer but have been put off by Arsenal’s demand.
According to Italian Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio via Football Insider, AS Roma will now end their pursuit of the goalkeeper, having failed to reach an agreement with Arsenal. The Serie A giants are now set to turn their attention to AC Milan goalie Diego Lopez.
Earlier in the summer, it was claimed the Gunners had placed a £15m price tag on Szczesny, a fee which Roma deemed to high but were hoping to reach an agreement with Arsenal on a reduced fee. Both clubs have held talks in the last few weeks but could not reach an agreement.
Szczesny has previously revealed his desire to return to the Italian club as the 25 year old isn’t keen on playing back up to Petr Cech. With Cech expected to remain Arsenal’s first choice goalie next season, Szczesny is expected to seek for a move away from the club, perhaps to another club this time around.
