Everton have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign Leicester City Star Riyad Mahrez.
The PFA player of the year is being linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium just few months after winning the Premier League title.
He has reportedly turned down a new contract at Leicester City and has told the club he wants a new Challenge.
Arsenal are seen as favourites to sign the midfielder but it appears the Gunners won’t have it all easy as they would now have to fight off competition.
According to the Mirror via HITC sport, Everton are prepared to rival Arsenal for the services of Mahrez.
The report claims Everton’s new shareholder Farhad Moshiri has promised the Merseyside club a large transfer kitty this summer and Ronald Koeman is prepared to spend a huge portion of it on Mahrez.
However, Koeman would find it difficult to convince Mahrez to choose Everton as the winger has reportedly made up his mind to join Arsenal this summer.
Arsenal have the added advantage of Champions League football, which is something Everton can’t offer the player.
Leicester are determined to keep the winger and Claudio Ranieri recently said he is confident Mahrez will stay with the Premier League Champions. However, should the player push for a move away from the club, interested clubs would have to pay as much as £45m for his services, a fee which wouldn’t be too much for Wenger to pay considering he has been given a large transfer kitty by the Gunners’ board.
