Napoli are considering a move for Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.
The Gunners are being linked with the striker and reports claim Wenger is prepared to pay as much as £42m for his services. However, Wenger will have to fight off competition from Napoli as the Italian club have joined the race to sign Lacazette.
Napoli are on the verge of losing its top striker Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus. The San Paolo side are expected to get a €94m fee for Higuain’s transfer and would in turn lunch a bid for Lacazette.
According to Calcio Mercato via Inside Futbol, Lacazette is top of Napoli’s wishlist to replace Higuain.
It is suggested that Napoli is prepared to spend up to €60m from the €94m Higuain’s windfall on Lacazette, a fee that Wenger might be unwilling to spend on the Lyon striker.
This could be seen as landing Arsenal a double blow as the Gunners were keen on Higuain but Napoli were reluctant to sell for less than his €94m forcing Arsenal to pull out of negotiations. The club then turned to Lacazette, who appears to be a cheaper option and should Napoli beat Arsenal to the signature by offering more money, it would be bad news to the Gooners.
