AS Roma have reached an agreement with Arsenal over extending the loan deal of Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports.
The Poland international spent last season on loan at the Italian club and impressed at the club. Roma boss Luciano Spalletti was keen to extend the goalie’s stay at the Italian Capital and the club tried to sign the player permanently but were put off by Arsenal’s £15m price tag. However, the Italian club have now reached an agreement with Arsenal over the services of the 26 year old. According to Gazetta Dello Sport via Inside Futbol, Roma have agreed to pay €1m to take Szczesny on loan for the 2016/2017 season.
The clubs are looking to finalize the deal and it is expected the move will be announced on Tuesday.
Szczesny has always revealed his desire to return to Roma instead of staying at the Emirates to act as back up to Petr Cech and the goalkeeper would definitely be excited by recent development.
Szczesny was once touted as Arsenal’s future goalie but the arrival of Petr Cech has forced the Poland international out of the scheme of things at the Emirates. With Cech closing in on his 34th birthday, another loan move for Szczesny would be good for all parties as the Poland international would still have the chance to replace Cech when the veteran draws closer to his retirement.
