Arsenal have been told to up their bid for Alexandre Lacazette, according to a report in the Mirror.
The Gunners are keen on the French striker and the club is currently working on a deal to sign the 25-year-old.
Olympic Lyon revealed yesterday that it turned down Arsenal’s €35m bid for the striker and also claimed they are unwilling to sell their star man.
However, the Mirror has now revealed that Arsenal have been told it would take a bid of £40m plus bonuses to sign the 25-year-old.
The report added that despite Lyon’s claim that the striker is not for sale, they had already told interested clubs that it would take a £40m offer to sign him even before Arsenal came in with a €35m bid.
Wenger could return with an improved offer as the French tactician is desperate to land a striker this summer.
The club have already failed to persuade Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain to move to the Emirates. It is not yet known if Wenger would be willing to match Lyon’s valuation for the striker but one thing is certain, Arsenal would work hard to sign a striker before the end of the transfer window and Lacazette represents a realistic option.
