Arsenal are preparing to submit an improved bid for Olympic Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.
Wenger has previously confirmed he is looking to sign a striker this summer and it appears Lacazette is the man he has chosen.
Olympic Lyon on Tuesday confirmed the Gunners had tabled a £29.5m bid which it rejected, claiming they were uninterested in selling their star man. Reports then claimed the French club would be open to selling the player this summer should they receive a £40m bid. Lyon reportedly communicated this to Arsenal when it enquired about the striker but the club still went ahead with a £29.5m offer.
Arsenal are planning a new offer for the striker but are not prepared to meet Lyon’s demand. According to Squawka, Arsene Wenger is not prepared to spend more than £33.7m on the striker and would now submit a final bid reflecting his value.
It is unknown if the Gunners would be able to convince Lyon to sell their prized asset for that fee as the French club have already released a press statement claiming the striker is “irreplaceable” and an important part of their plans for next season.
Arsenal have already missed on Gonzalo Higuain and Jamie Vardy this summer and with the club desperately in need of a top striker, it wouldn’t be good if Lacazette joins that list.
