Arsene Wenger has lined up Mauro Icardi as an alternative should the club fail it its pursuit of Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.
The Gunners boss is working actively to sign a centre-forward this summer and it is claimed Lacazette is top of his wishlist.
The club have already had a £29.5m bid rejected for the striker but Wenger is preparing to offer an improved £35m bid. However, Lyon are adamant they won’t let the striker leave for anything less than £40m and according to the Daily Star, Wenger has already lined up Icardi as a fall back option.
Inter Milan have already admitted there is a chance the striker could leave the club this summer and have set a €60m price tag on the striker.
Inter Milan chief Erick Thohir said: “All of us and Inter are hoping that figure goes above 60million euros.
“Inter will be here for hundreds of years but it is made of individuals who change each year.”
“We are hoping to receive a better offer.
“Mauro is an important player for us and our captain. However, players come and go.”
it remains to be seen if Wenger would be unwilling to pay £40m for Lacazette and then go above that fee for Icardi. However both strikers would be quality addition to our squad.
