Arsenal are interested in signing Swansea City defender Federico Fernandez, according to reports.
Wenger has made signing a centre back his priority this summer and has been linked with a number of them already. However, the club are yet to bring in any and it appears Wenger has now stepped up his search.
According to the Sun via Goal, Arsenal are targeting 27 year old Fernandez and Wenger sees him as a quality replacement for Per Mertesacker.
The Argentine defender joined Swansea in 2014 and has been impressive for the Welsh side. It is believed the defender would cost the club at least £10m.
It appears Wenger is keeping his options open and is currently monitoring different targets. The club have also been linked with West Brom defender Jonny Evans and Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi in the last few days.
The boss specifically revealed he is in search of an experienced centre back and he might have found that quality in Fernandez.
“We have to look for an option to get a bit more experience. We will see some of our young centre backs as well, Wenger noted.
The boss has also suggested he would deploy club youngster Krystian Bielek as a centre back next season as he attempts to provide cover for an injury ravaged defense.
