Arsene Wenger has refused to deny reports linking Riyad Mahrez with a move to the Emirates, fuelling speculations that the club could be closing in on the PFA player of the year.
The Gunners have been heavily linked to the winger with a bid of €50m being mooted.
Wenger was present at Leicester City’s game against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday and was questioned about his club’s reported interest in the Algerian international, the manager refused to let out any information, choosing to keep his cards close to his chest.
“we watch all the players, you know.
“But we play Leicester in the second game of the championship so of course it’s a good opportunity for us tonight to see them.”
“I cannot give you a yes or no because we do not publicise our transfer interest.
“The best way to make things happen is to keep it as secret as possible.”
Leicester City are adamant that the winger is not for sale but the club boss recently admitted that the player is distracted by speculations about his future.
“Maybe Riyad is distracted a bit by all of these rumours and speculation,” Ranieri said. “But that is also an experience for my players. It is important that he understands that he should stay with us.
“He has to improve his fitness and play for the team as well as last season.”
