Arsenal could be dealt a huge blow in its attempt to sign Olympic Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette. The Gunners are currently working on a deal to sign the striker but are yet to be successful.
The club tabled a £29.5m bid for the striker last month which was immediately rejected by Lyon and it is thought that the club are preparing to return with an improved offer worth £35m.
However, Arsenal could suffer a huge set back in its attempts to sign the striker as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed the club would offer the striker a new deal to keep him away from Arsenal.
The French club have always insisted the striker is not for sale and Aulas’ recent comments mean the club haven’t changed their stance.
‘We will propose to Lacazette to extend his contract to show him he is one of our greatest assets,’ he said.
However, Arsenal are not expected to be deterred by Lyon’s stance and would submit a new bid in the coming weeks. Should Lyon be reluctant to discuss a deal, the player might then have to force a move to Arsenal as the Telegraph claims the player have told Lyon of his desire to join Arsenal.
The striker scored 21 league goals for Lyon last summer and it is no surprise that the French club are determined to keep him.
