Arsene Wenger has hailed midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, backing the winger to play a key role for the Gunners next season. The England international has been linked with a move away from the Emirates but it appears he would remain at the club next season.

The winger produced a man of the match display in the Gunners’ latest preseason game and Wenger believes he has all it takes to become a key player for the team.

Chamberlain was limited by injuries last season and having fully recovered from the injury, Wenger has urged him to add more personality to his game to enable him take his career to the next level, according to the Mirror.

“It’s a very important season for him,”

“He has been out for a long, long time. He has been injured and did not go to the European Championship, like he should have done if he had been fit. That’s why I’m cautious with him.”

“I gave him 45 minutes [against MLS All-Stars], now 70 minutes. I hope I can get him through and fit for the start of the season.

“Power, penetration – he has it all, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It’s difficult [to find] what he doesn’t have – that’s why I would like him to get to the level he can go to.

“Maybe he doesn’t completely believe himself how good he can be and that’s the final step for him.”

Chamberlain has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Southampton but he appears to be in Wenger’s plans for next season after the manager’s recent comments.

The winger has featured 149 times for Arsenal since he joined the club in 2011 and is set to add to that when the season begins in few weeks time.
