Arsenal have been working on a deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, according to Tribalfootball columnist Emanuele Giulianelli.

Wenger has stated on several occasions that he is looking to sign a striker this summer and won’t rest on his laurels until he finally lures one to the Emirates. The likes of Jamie Vardy, Gonzalo Higuain, Alexandre Lacazette and Mauro Icardi have been linked with the club this summer but it seems neither were Wenger’s top target.

Last month, Giulianelli claimed Arsenal were working on a secret striker deal. He added that Alexandre Lacazette was the Gunners’ back up option should they not be able to land the secret striker.

The Italian Journalist has now revealed that the mystery striker is Antoine Griezmann.

It is claimed the Gunners have been in talks with Atletico Madrid over signing the striker since the Euro 2016 competition. Wenger indicated he would be willing to break the club’s transfer record for the former Sociedad man but Atletico weren’t prepared to let him leave for a penny less than his €100m release clause.

The Journalist also added that Arsenal would try to sign Griezmann one more time and are waiting to see if Atletico Madrid would be able to sign Diego Costa from Chelsea.

Wenger would continue to work on a deal to sign Lacazette as he isn’t confident of signing Griezmann at the moment.

Griezmann who recently signed a new five year contract with Atletico Madrid was the best player in the just concluded Euro 2016 competition.
