The Premier League will officially kick off this weekend with Arsenal playing against Liverpool.
The Gunners will be without two key defenders Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista as they have been ruled out due to injury.
BBC reporter David Ornstein claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that Arsenal will step up their interest for Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi as Gabriel will be ruled out until October (8weeks).
However, Wenger will have to meet Valencia’s valuation for the German international as he currently has a release clause of £42million he has been widely reported in join Arsenal this summer and it seems a Wenger could seal a deal after losing Gabriel due to injury.
Wenger is also keeping tabs on West Brom’s defender Johnny Evans as he attempts to sign a centre back before the season begins next weekend. Should he not be able to sign a defender before then, we would have to rely on Calum Chambers and Rob Holdings to face Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season.
