Arsene Wenger is unlikely to return with an improved offer for Olympic Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, according to Standard Sport.
The Gunners are interested in signing Lacazette but Lyon are doing everything possible to hold on to their star player.
The striker is already a subject of a £29.5m bid from Arsenal but the offer was rejected by the French club. It is widely expected that Arsenal would return with an improved £35m bid for the striker but Standard Sport understands that is not the case.
Olympic Lyon are believed to have informed Arsenal that Lacazette would not be sold at any price. The French club are under no pressure to sell the striker especially after letting Samuel Umtiti join Barcelona for about £21m
Reports in France claim Arsenal are yet to table an improved bid for the striker and even if we do, Lyon are likely to turn down the offer.
Wenger has been working on signing a striker this summer and has been priced out of most deals. With a move for Lacazette now proving difficult, the French man is now prepared to look inwards. He has reportedly told Chuba Akpom that he won’t be leaving the Emirates on loan this summer and has urged the 21 year old to seize the chance by making an impact in the first team this season.
This will come as a big blow to Arsenal fans who were hoping the club would finally sign a world class striker this summer.
