Arsenal new signing Takuma Asano has revealed that he wasn’t sure if joining Arsenal this summer was the right move but discussions with his family changed his mind.
The striker completed a move from Sanfreece Hiroshima last month and he says he is happy to be a Gunner.
The striker is one of the brightest talents in Japan and his performances for his local side attracted interests from Europe. Wenger was keen on the striker and was eager to complete a move but Asano has now revealed he had reservations about moving to the Emirates.
Asano said: “I’ve always wanted to play abroad and I had a few offers before but I was never sure if I should go or not.
“Once I was called up for the top national team where there are a lot of players playing abroad. Playing with them made me think that I also want to play and challenge in a foreign league.
“And then I had the offer from Arsenal. Of course, I was still not sure whether to go or not. I talked with my family and friends and felt good about the decision after talking with them.”
“I’m ecstatic about everything! With the Olympics and also for Arsenal – I’m still not sure if I’ll actually play for Arsenal right away in the coming season, but definitely I’ll try my best.”
Asano is currently with the Japan U23 squad partaking in the Rio 2016 Olympics and the forward scored a sublime goal against Nigeria in their opening game.
