Arsenal are still interested in signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports in Italy.
Wenger has been in search of a defender all summer and last month, the French manager was rumored to be interested in Koulibaly. The reports linking the Senegalese defender with a move to the Emirates have since died down as Wenger is believed to have preference for other targets.
However, Italian newspaper Tuttosport via RedLondon.net, claims Arsenal are still interested in signing Koulibaly. The report added that the Gunners are prepared to hold talks with Napoli over signing the defender.
The player is interested in a move away from Napoli and Arsenal are hoping to take advantage of the situation. The player’s agent Bruno Satin told Radio CRC that his client is in search of a new club.
“The player wants to leave the club. He doesn’t want to renew [contract with Napoli].” Satin said.
“Napoli keep saying he’s a top player, but their contract offer suggests they think otherwise.”
Arsenal are also being linked with Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi and West Brom’s Jonny Evans as we attempt to sign a defender before the start of the season. Wenger has been made to step up his search after losing Per Mertesacker to a long term injury. The French man will also be without Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista for the start of the season.
