Arsene Wenger is prepared to step up his attempts to sign a centre back in the coming days, according to reports.
The boss has already lost two of his senior centre backs to injury this summer and he is now looking to sign a replacement as soon as possible.
Per Mertesacker has already been ruled out of action until next year and Gabriel Paulista is set to join him on the sidelines with the Brazilian expected to miss the next six weeks.
Wenger is now determined to sign a defender and wants to sign either Johnny Evans or Shkodran Mustafi.
Mustafi is believed to be Wenger’s first choice and the boss is prepared to submit a £30m for his services this week.
Arsenal have already opened talks with Valencia to sign Mustafi and Wenger is hoping to push through a deal as soon as possible.
However, the boss is keeping his options open and has lined up Johnny Evans as an alternative target. It is claimed Wenger would make a move for Evans should he not be able to complete a deal for Mustafi.
Whoever Asenal go for, the fans will be hoping the deal is completed before Liverpool’s visit to the Emirates on Sunday as the club have no fit senior centre back available for the game.
