Arsene Wenger has revealed he is scared of retirement as he enters into the final year of his contract.

Wenger turns 67 in October and in reality is getting closer to the end of his career  but the boss has revealed he is not looking forward to retirement, claiming it would be difficult to live without football.

The Gunners’ boss recently admitted he is yet to decide if he will renew his contract at the club when the current contract expires at the end of the season and has now added that he doesn’t know what he will do after he quits the game.

“It’s been my life and, honestly, I’m quite scared of the day [I retire],” Wenger said, as quoted by Standard Sport.

“The longer I wait, the more difficult it will be and the more difficult it will be to lose the addiction.

“After Alex retired and we played them over there [at Manchester United] he sent a message to me to come up and have a drink with him. I asked: ‘Do you miss it?’ He said: ‘Not at all.’ I didn’t understand that. It’s an emptiness in your life, especially when you’ve lived your whole life waiting for the next game and trying to win it.”

The French tactician has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996 and has helped the club to several titles including three league titles and six FA cup trophies.
