Arsenal would face serious competition in the race to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, according to the Daily Star.
Wenger is reportedly keen on signing the Argentine international but would have to rival Chelsea and Napoli.
Inter Milan are reluctant to sell the striker and are battling hard to keep him at the club but it appears the player’s agent, Wanda Nara is trying to find a new club for her client. It was reported in Italy that Nara flew to London last month to hold talks with interested clubs and to ascertain the possibility of the player moving to the Premier League. She has been vocal about Icardi’s future all summer and has indicated the striker could leave should Inter not offer him a new deal.
Arsenal and Chelsea are the English clubs believed to be interested in the striker, Wenger has reportedly offered a deal of £30m plus Olivier Giroud for his services while Chelsea have turned their attention to the Argentine, after giving up on their pursuit of Lukaku.
However, both Premier League giants could miss out on Icardi as Skysports Italia are claiming Napoli are preparing a huge bid for the striker. It is understood that Napoli would submit a £53.2m bid which would end Chelsea and Arsenal hope of signing the striker.
Arsenal are believed to be looking at other targets already with Manchester City’s Wilfred Bony said to be on the club’s wish list.
