Arsenal are on the verge of signing Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports.
The club has been working on a deal to sign the defender for sometime and now appear close to agreeing a fee.
According to Spanish newspaper Plaza Deportivo via the Express, Valencia owner Peter Lim flew into London on Friday to finalize negotiations with Arsenal. Lim is expected to meet with Arsene Wenger over the weekend to trash out the final details in the deal to bring Mustafi to the Emirates.
Reliable Journalist Emanuele Giulianelli also confirmed via his twitter account on Friday that Arsenal have found a breakthrough in negotiations with Valencia. He added that the club are now confident of signing the defender and expect the deal to be completed by Wednesday.
He tweeted: Arsenal club fully expects Mustafi deal to be complete by mid week next week.
Mustafi will become the club’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding.
The defender is expected to cost the Gunners around £30m despite having a release clause of £42m in his contract. Wenger would be relieved to finally complete the signing of a defender after losing two of his senior centre backs to injury during the club’s preseason.
Mustafi established himself as one of Europe’s best defenders at Valencia, making 61 league appearances for the Spanish club.
