Arsene Wenger is not prepared to pay over the odds for Olympic Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Daily Mail.
Wenger has been working on a deal to sign the French international but is yet to be successful.
The French club have already rejected a £29.5m from Arsenal for the striker and have warned they won’t sell at any price. At first, Wenger appeared determined to get his man and was preparing a new £35m bid but the French tactician could drop his interest in the striker after learning about Lyon’s valuation.
Olympic Lyon are insisting Lacazette is worth £60m, almost twice Wenger’s valuation.
Although, Lacazette has proven himself in the French Ligue one in the last few seasons, he has been unable to displace Olivier Giroud from the France team and couldn’t even make the Euro 2016 squad. It is unthinkable Wenger would spend £60m on such player considering how well our rivals have strengthened.
Wenger has admitted in the past that he is looking to sign a striker this summer but has recently begin to change his tone, stressing the lack of quality in the market. The French man recently warned he may not sign a striker unless a top class forward becomes available.
Actually, if you want to spend upward of £60m on a player, you have to make sure he is top quality and Lacazette is definitely not in that class yet.
