Arsene Wenger have lined up alternative targets to Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports.
The club are currently working on a deal to sign the centre back and we are in advance talks with Valencia. However, both clubs are yet to reach an agreement and Wenger is already lining up alternative targets should a move for Mustafi fall through.
According to BBC Sport Journalist David Orstein via Football Insider, Wenger has lined up a move for either Bayer Leverkusen’s Omer Toprak or Fenerbahce’s Simon Kjaer.
However, Ornstein claims Mustafi remains the club’s first choice to fix the defensive crisis and Wenger would only move for the duo should a move for the German fails.
Arsenal yet to agree fee for Mustafi. They are considering Omer Toprak and Simon Kjaer as alternatives but Mustafi remains priority & keen to join
Arsenal are yet to reach an agreement with Valencia as both clubs are still apart in the valuation of the defender. Valencia are unwilling to shift ground as they would prefer keeping their star man.
Orstein added: “Price the issue. Arsenal want to hold back funds for possible striker signing. Arsenals transfer budget factors in fee, salary, agent commission”
Wenger is desperate to strengthen the defense this summer after losing two of his senior centre backs to injury and may have to meet Valencia’s demands to enable him sign his top target.
