Club Brugge defender Bjorn Engels has revealed he would not join Arsenal this summer, via Standard Sport.
The Gunners are currently in search of a centre defender and has been linked with a number of targets. Shkodran Mustafi is believed to be Wenger’s priority target but the French man is also keeping tabs on alternative targets should he not be able to agree a fee for the German.
Engels is also being linked with a move to Arsenal but the defender has revealed he is not interested in a move to the Emirates.
The 21 year old believes a move to the Emirates is not the right step for his career at the moment and will prefer to continue his development at his current club or at a mid-table club.
“That [a move to Dortmund or Arsenal] is a bridge too far for me at the moment, Engels said.
“A mid-table team [in a big league] would be the ideal next step for me and there have been some serious offers from such teams.
“I am staying calm, though. I only want to be informed about it when Club also agree to a transfer.
“I am 100 per cent focused on Club now and that will not change so long as I am here. Playing in the Champions League is a nice prospect as well.
“We will have to wait and see what happens.”
Wenger recently signed another promising defender Rob Holding who has been impressive since moving to the Emirates.
