Arsenal officially announced the transfer away of Joel Campbell on a season loan deal to Sporting Lisbon.
Campbell’s loan move looks surprising as Wenger few days ago said the player was one of his centre forward options and sending the player on loan when the club is still light in attack doesn’t look like a good idea.
However, it could have been the player who opted to move to Sporting in order to play regular football which would have been difficult to come by at the Emirates stadium.
Since Campbell joined Arsenal in 2011, he has been on loan at Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiacos and Villareal and he is now set for his fifth loan spell away from the Emirates. Campbell made his debut for the club in August 2014 and has shown he can make the grade at Arsenal. However, he would have to bide his time as his immediate future doesn’t lie in North London.
Campbell who made 30 appearances for the club last season appears to have fallen out of Wenger’s plans and is now set for a spell away from the Emirates.
