Arsenal are set to offer Germany youngster Serge Gnabry a new contract, Wenger has confirmed.
The 21 year old is currently with the German team at the Rio 2016 Olympic games and has been impressive for his side, helping them to the final of the games’ men football competition.
His performances have attracted interest from Germany and Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin were hoping to sign the winger but Wenger has now revealed he wants him to remain at Arsenal and sign a new deal to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.
“I want to keep Serge Gnabry and extend his contract,” Wenger said, as quoted by fourfourtwo.com.
“I think we stood by him. He went to West Brom on loan, didn’t play, and we had to rebuild his confidence.
“I allowed him to go to the Olympics to help Germany. I think he’s here now for a long time.”
Gnabry’s contract expires at the end of this season and it makes sense for Wenger to be keen on a renewal as the player is one with so much potential.
He joined West Brom on loan last summer but failed to make an impact at the Hawthorns. The winger has now put last season struggles behind him and has scored six goals in five games for Germany in the Olympics.
