Arsenal have been told they must include Alexis Sanchez in its bid to sign Jose Gimenez, according to reports
The Gunners are reportedly interested in the centre back but it appears the chances of signing the wonderkid are slim as Atletico Madrid are prepared to frustrate Wenger’s attempt to sign the defender.
Last week, it was claimed the Gunners held talks with Atletico over signing the defender and Spanish news paper Don Balon are now claiming Arsenal have been told to include Sanchez in a swap deal for Gimenez.
The report claims Sanchez has already told Wenger he wants to leave the Emirates and a deal involving the player is the only offer Atletico would consider.
Gimenez, 21, is regarded as one of the best defenders in his generation and Atletico Madrid actually have no intention of selling him. It is claimed Wenger sees the Uruguay international as a long term replacement for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, hence the reason for the club’s interest.
A move for the defender would not be easy to conclude and with the transfer window closing in a fortnight, it appears the club have indicated it’s interest in the defender a bit late. Arsenal need to sign a centre back this summer and it would be better the club turn it’s attention to a more realistic target.
