Arsene Wenger has revealed the club are in negotiations with Valencia over the services of Shkodran Mustafi and are hopeful of reaching an agreement in the next few days.
Arsenal have been in talks with Valencia for sometime and the deal is beginning to drag on for too long. Reports are claiming a fee hasn’t been agreed because Valencia are demanding €50m for the defender. Wenger has now given a bit of hope by saying he hopes the club will reach an agreement with its Spanish counterpart as soon as possible.
“Mustafi? We hope it will be done,” the Frenchman said of the club’s pursuit of the German, as quoted by Goal.
“We are struggling to find the players we need.
“He is one of a number of players we are looking at. Negotiations are ongoing.”
Mustafi is widely regarded as Arsenal’s top target to strengthen the defense. Wenger has already vowed to sign new players before the end of the transfer window but stressed he won’t pay exorbitant fees.
“If we find the right player we will not be reluctant to spend big,” he said.
“If I just bought someone for £45m will I have done well?”
“I will spend £300m if I find the right player, and we have £300m. But we also have 600 employees and we need to have a responsible attitude as well.”
The club currently have Laurent Koscielny as its only fit senior centre half and there is no doubt the club needs to sign a centre half before the end of the transfer window, no matter the cost.
