Arsenal are yet to make an offer to sign Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez, according to reports.
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Gimenez and it is believed the club sees the defender as an alternative to Shkodran Mustafi.
However, according to Spanish Publication Marca via the Express, Arsenal have no chance of signing Gimenez this summer.
The report claims Atletico Madrid have not received any offer for the defender and they are also not prepared to listen to any offer.
The defender is a key part of Diego Simeone’s squad and the Spanish giants do not want to weaken their squad as they prepare to give Real Madrid and Barcelona a run for their money.
However, should the Gunners decide to make a move for Gimenez, they could be frustrated by Atletico’s demands as Spanish journalist Guilem Balague claimed in a previous report that Atletico would not sell the defender for a penny less than his £56m release clause.
Arsenal are still in talks with Valencia over the services of Mustafi. On Saturday, Wenger stated the club is closing in on a new signing and it is believed the Gunners are confident of reaching an agreement with Valencia in the next few days.
