Bundesliga side Mainz 05 are reportedly keen on signing Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry.
The German international was impressive for his national team in the Rio Olympic games, helping his team claim the Silver medal.
According to German publication Allgemeine Zeitung via Sports Mole, Mainz have been attracted by the player’s performances in Rio and are looking to agree a deal with Arsenal. It is unknown if the German club are interested in taking the winger on loan or signing him permanently but the report suggests they are serious about signing the German.
Hertha Berlin have also been linked with the winger but Mainz have jumped ahead and are believed to be leading the race to sign the winger.
However, both clubs would struggle to sign the player as Wenger is reluctant to let the winger leave the Emirates and recently revealed he is looking to keep the 21 year old this season.
“I want to keep Serge Gnabry and extend his contract,” Wenger said.
“I think we stood by him. He went to West Brom on loan, didn’t play, and we had to rebuild his confidence.
“I allowed him to go to the Olympics to help Germany. I think he’s here now for a long time.”
Arsenal are currently light in attack, the club recently sent Joel Campbell out on loan to Sporting Lisbon and losing Gnabry would further reduce Wenger’s attacking options.
