Mesut Ozil is prepared to resume talks with Arsenal over a new contract after negotiations were placed on hold during the Euro 2016 championship.

Arsenal opened talks with the German’s representative before the European Championships but the player wanted to focus on the German national team and both parties will now resume negotiations in the nearest future.

Ozil still has two years left in his contract, but Wenger is keen to eliminate all doubts surrounding his future at Arsenal by getting him to sign a new deal.

Wenger has now received a huge boost as the midfielder recently told German newspaper Expres (via Goal) that he is ready to hold talks with the club after the international break

“I have a contract until 2018. We have had discussions, but they were suspended for the European Championship.

“I wanted to focus at this time only on the national team. Now we look to continue the negotiations.”

The German international was linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window and has admitted he would consider a move back to Germany and a move to America in the future.

“In football, you can never say never. You don’t know what will happen. I had a good time in Germany. That was a lot of fun.

“Eventually [moving to America] could be an option. I have fun everywhere. My fans know that I like to spend my vacation in Los Angeles, because the city inspires me.”

It is believed the new deal will be worth close to £200,000 a week which would make the 27 year old the highest paid player in the club.
