Arsenal are ready to offer France international Laurent Koscielny a new deal, according to reports.
The defender has less than a year left in his contract and Wenger is hoping to tie him down on a new deal as soon as possible.
Koscielny was the subject of interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. Carlo Ancelotti’s men were reportedly keen on the defender but Wenger was able to keep him away from the German giants.
However, Wenger knows he still has work to do because the defender would be able to enter into talks with other clubs as from December and he wants the player to extend his contract before then.
The club have a policy of offering short-term contracts to players who have clocked 30 but that is not expected to be a problem in Koscielny’s case as reports in France via the Mirror claim the player is likely to sign a new deal at the Emirates.
Although no agreement has been reached, Arsenal are confident the 30-year-old defender will not be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Koscielny is a key member of Arsenal squad, he has developed into one of Europe’s best centre-half since he joined in 2010 and keeping him would be beneficial to the club.
