Olivier Giroud has revealed he tried to convince Moussa Sissoko to join Arsenal prior to his move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to 101 Great Goals.
Sissoko was linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window but the club didn’t make a move for the French midfielder who subsequently joined Tottenham Hotspur on transfer deadline day.
However, Giroud has now revealed he told Sissoko to prioritize a move to the Emirates.
Giroud said: “I told him to give Arsenal the priority. It’s true it was special denouement. Until the end he didn’t know what he’ll do. It’s good for him. I think it was quite a long month for him so it’s good that something could have happened even in the very last moments. It’s great for him.”
Sissoko issued a come and get me plea to Arsenal after the European championship. The French man publicly stated that ‘beautiful Arsenal” is “the club of his heart” and also said would it would be a dream come true to play for the club.
The player finally ended up at White Hart Lane and Giroud believes it is a good move for the midfielder.
“Tottenham is a great team in our league. Obviously we all wanted for him [Sissoko] after his good Euro and great performances, that he joins a Premier League club. In the Premier League Tottenham are an opponent for the trophy this year. I hope he will not be in good conditions against us.”
Giroud will face Sissoko in this season’s first North London derby on November 5.
