Arsene Wenger has revealed why he signed Takuma Asano in the summer transfer window.
Asano was a shock signing the club made in July when many were expecting the club to sign an elite striker.
Wenger had already been snubbed by Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and to the dismay of many Arsenal fans, he turned his attentions to Asano. The boss has now revealed what prompted him to sign the Japanese youngster despite his relative lack of European football experience.
Many Arsenal fans are still unconvinced if the striker has the potential to play for the club but Wenger believes otherwise.
“What I see in him is the quality of his runs, his pace, his body strength and he is quite aggressive,” Wenger told Arsenal Player, as quoted by RedLondon.net.
“You do not find many players today who go behind the defenders at every opportunity.
“That is one of his strengths. I must say, I’m personally a strong believer in him, because by coincidence I met the national coach of Japan and he is absolutely convinced by him.”
Asano has since been loaned out to German Bundesliga side VFB Stuttgart after the club failed to secure a work permit for him to play in England.
