Arsene Wenger has hailed Theo Walcott’s performance against Hull City on Saturday.

Walcott has suffered criticism since the beginning of last season following series of poor performances for the team but Wenger believes the winger is gradually getting back to his best.

The England international was linked with a move away from the Emirates in the just concluded summer transfer window but he decided to stay and fight for his position at the club.

Walcott showed his quality against Hull City, terrorizing the opposition defense every time he got the ball. He also found the net and Wenger is confident the winger will play a key role for the club this season.

“He’s getting – slowly – there. He’s not completely ready psychically,” said Wenger.

“In the second half he was much better than in the first. He has interesting qualities for us.

“He goes behind and we have many players who like to come to the ball.

“And he’s one of the players who, for the quality of his runs and the quality of his interceptions, is very dangerous.

“Today in the first half he was influential in the goal, then he scored one. He’s efficient and that’s what you want,” Wenger added.

Over the years, Walcott has failed to nail down a regular spot in the starting xi due to his inconsistent performances, he has showed his quality in patches which has frustrated fans but should he continue to improve and add more consistency to his game, he will play a key role in the club’s title challenge this season.
