Arsene Wenger has hailed new signings Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez for their performance against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
The duo played part in each of the Gunners’ four goals and Wenger was impressed with their contribution.
Xhaka opened the scoring with a well taken strike before Perez added a brace in the second half. The striker also played a role in Chamberlain’s stoppage time goal and Wenger had words of praise for them.
“I knew we had a strong squad. It was a full house, a completely motivated team against us and we had a complete performance.
“The speed and movement of our play was fantastic. Lucas Perez and Granit Xhaka were very good.”
“I liked Perez’s second goal as he showed it was not only good technique but also good determination, to fight for the ball and finish.” Wenger said.
“I liked as well the part he played in the goal of Oxlade-Chamberlain because it shows he can combine with other people and that he is an intelligent player.
“He’s quick, he’s determined, he uses well his left foot – a bit too much for my taste, and not enough his right foot, but overall he’s like all left-footed players.”
Xhaka scored a wonderful long range effort against Hull City on Saturday and his strike against Nottingham has shown the goal against the Tigers wasn’t a fluke. Perez who scored a brace on the night will be hoping to build on his performance as he attempts to secure a place in the starting xi.
The duo’s arrival has added an extra dimension and depth in strength to the squad and many Gooners will be happy with this. The two players cost the Gunners a combined sum of £50m and should they continue to perform as they did on Tuesday, they will be a great piece of business in the long run.
