Arsene Wenger has hailed his side’s performance against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

The Gunners defeated the Championship side 4-0 to progress to the fourth round of the EFL cup and Wenger has hailed his team’s performance.

The boss shuffled his team by opting to field a different starting xi from the one that started against Hull City last weekend and the overall performance was very impressive.

Wenger is now hoping the team’s performance can convince people that they are good enough to win the league.

Fans and pundits have questioned the mentality and quality of Arsenal players to challenge for titles and the boss is hoping Tuesday’s performance will erase any doubt that the players are of the club’s standard.

Wenger hailed new signings Lucas Perez who scored a brace on the night and Granit Xhaka who scored the first goal. The striker has faced criticism from some quarters after struggling to impress on his debut but Wenger hopes his two goals will silence his critics.

“The team played with a lot of commitment and we needed to be patient,” Wenger said.

“We suffered in the first 20 minutes and that goal helped us and after that everybody focused.

“It’s good because it convinces people they are good enough to play for Arsenal.”

The game showed Arsenal have a good squad depth which would be crucial in the title race. The victory was a convincing one despite the starting xi consisting of fringe players and academy youngsters.

Arsenal have started this season in superb form and going by the quality in the squad, there is no reason why this form shouldn’t last longer.

Up next is an home clash against Chelsea on Saturday and the boss will be hoping the boys prove themselves against the big teams.
