Arsene Wenger has hailed the performance of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the club’s 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

The winger played from the start and rounded off a brilliant team performance by scoring the fourth goal of the  game

Last week, reports claimed Chamberlain’s future at the Emirates is in doubt following his failure to develop into the kind of player that was expected of him when he was signed from Southampton.

The winger’s future at Arsenal is in doubt and is being made to wait for a new contract despite already into the penultimate year of his current contract. It was claimed that unless he impresses Wenger this season, he will not be offered a new deal at the club. And now he has received a huge boost after Wenger hailed his performance against Nottingham.

Wenger said: “He’s in good form at the moment, physically.

“It’s the first time in a long period that he has been ready to compete and he had a little bit of a slow start in this game but became stronger and stronger.

“I was very pleased for him with the way he finished the game.”

In truth, Chamberlain was impressive on the night, although he struggled a bit in the opening stages of the game, he grew into the game in the second half and caused problems for the opposition. However the player still has room for improvement, should he continue to improve and also perform well against tougher opponents, he could just win Wenger’s heart and stay at the club for many more years.
