Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has revealed the club will now focus on signing talented young players in the future.
Arsenal spent almost £90m in the summer transfer window with a majority of that obviously on established players however a significant sum of that was also spent by the club on talented young players like Takuma Asano, Rob Holding and kelechi Nwakali.
Gazidis has now revealed the club’s plan is to continue to buy the best young players in world football. The chief revealed this in the club’s meeting with its supporters. Minutes from the meeting [via the Daily Star] read:
“Ivan Gazidis talked about our transfer approach which remains focused on identifying and developing young players while competing for top talent who can further strength our squad.
“The ambition remains to be amongst the elite clubs around the world and compete to win the major trophies.
“After all the summer activity he felt we had done well, signing Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding early on, signing our first choice centre-back target Shkodran Mustafi and also adding Lucas Perez.
“The latter had been on our radar for some time and we are pleased to have made a strong addition.
“He also pointed to the signings of Kelechi Nwakali and Takuma Asano as good acquisitions for the future.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Wenger’s future, the club is already planning for its future and are currently monitoring a number of young players, with the likes of Anderlecht”s Youri Tielemans and Udinese’s Panagiotis Armenakas on the club’s radar .
Arsenal have a long history of bringing youngsters through to its first team and it’s no surprise that the club wants to continue that tradition by signing the best young players and help them progress into the first team in the future.
