Arsene Wenger is prepared to leave Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to reports.
The manager who recently celebrated his 20 year anniversary at the club could decide to walk away at the end of the season.
Wenger has been tight-lipped over his future and is yet to indicate if he will sign a new deal. Ideally, the club will want him to renew his contract but it is already preparing itself for the French man’s departure.
Wenger has had to face frequent criticism in the last few years for his failure to lead the team to the Premier League title since 2004, things got worse when some fans staged a protest against him during the game against Norwich City last season and the boss could now decide to step down when his contract expires in order to give the club a fresh start.
According to the Daily Star, official minutes from a meeting between the club and it’s supporters group revealed that the club is ready for Wenger’s exit.
The report claims Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis talked about how Wenger and the players failed the fans last season.
The minutes (via the Daily Star) reveal he told them: “Last season was a disappointment he said and is not what we are aiming for.”
Arsenal have already earmarked AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe as Wenger’s replacement. The club will continue to keep an eye on Howe’s work at the Dean Court and should he keep his team in the Premier League again this season, the club will seriously try to lure him to the Emirates.
Wenger will be hoping to leave Arsenal on a high by winning at least the league title which has eluded him for over a decade.
