Arsenal are interested in signing Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule, according to reports.
German publication Sport Bild via the Daily Star claims Arsenal sent scouts to watch Sule in action against Schalke 04 last weekend. The defender was impressive for his side, playing the full 90 minutes of the game and helping his side to a 2-1 win.
Arsenal were not the only Premier League club present at the game as Everton also sent officials to watch the defender.
The defender is regarded as one of the most talented centre-backs in the Bundesliga and many clubs are expected to make moves for his services next summer.
Sule was the subject of a £25m bid from Chelsea in the summer transfer window but they failed to lure the defender to Stamford Bridge. It is expected that the Blues will return for the German’s services next summer, meaning they will rival Arsenal for his services should the Gunners make its interest concrete.
Arsenal signed Shkodran Mustafi in the summer and it appears the club has enough numbers in centre defense. However, two of its senior centre-backs Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are already above 30 years of age and the club could be in search of a long-term replacement for either of the duo.
