Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Laurent Koscielny has hailed the competition for the centre-forward role at Arsenal.

Alexis Sanchez is currently Wenger’s first choice striker, the 27-year-old has been superb this season and Koscielny has hailed his performances, claiming he “is walking on water”.

The Chile international was converted to a centre-forward from his usual role on the left flank and the way he has adapted to the new position has been more than impressive. His performances haVe kept Olivier Giroud out of the first team but Koscielny believes his country man can force his way back into the starting xi and play a key role in the team this season.

Giroud is also recovering from a toe injury and that has not made the battle to reclaim the first team spot easy but Koscielny is confident he can get over this set back.

“We returned late after Euro 2016, so we had to do more [in training] to be ready physically,” Koscielny told reporters when asked about Giroud’s fitness concerns.

“There is competition up front at Arsenal and Alexis Sanchez is walking on water right now, so it’s difficult to remove him from the starting XI.

“I know Olivier and he has seen more difficult things during his career. We know his mental strength and the season is very long.

“He will have the opportunity to be back and give his answer on the pitch.”

Alexis has scored five goals for Arsenal in all competitions this season and should he continue to impress, Giroud would find it difficult to get back into the starting XI.

It is not to say the French striker will not stand a chance against the Chilean, Giroud has shown he can be a reliable striker in patches, should he become more consistent this season, he will definitely find a way of getting back into the starting XI.

The competition is expected to keep the two players on their toes and having them at their best for majority of the season will definitely be good for our chances of winning the league title.
