Arsenal have reportedly emerged as favorites to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

Icardi has been constantly linked with us in the last three summers but a move didn’t materialize. In the just concluded summer transfer window, the player’s agent Wanda Nara was reportedly in London twice to hold talks with our chiefs so as to ascertain the possibility of her client joining us. However, the player and his agent ended up using our interest to get a better deal at Inter.

Just few months after signing the new deal, reports linking the striker with us has resurfaced. According to the Daily Star, Arsenal have been handed a huge boost to sign the striker after he fell out with Inter’s executives and the fans.

Inter fans staged a protest against the striker last weekend after he criticized them in his recent autobiography. The fans are demanding the club’s captaincy is taken from him and reports claim that could mean his exit from the club.

We are being touted as a potential destination. However, we don’t see that happening. Icardi has a €110m release clause which we would be unlikely to activate.

Unless the relationship with his club get worse, we don’t think there is a possibility he would leave his club for a fee lower than his release clause. Should that even happen, we still have to find a way to accommodate him as we have more than enough options in his position. Lucas Perez, Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and possibly Danny Welbeck are all vying for that position, making a move for Icardi more difficult.
