Few days ago, we covered an article claiming Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in the race to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.
Icardi reportedly fell out with Inter Milan fans and the club executives after he criticized the Nerazurri’s faithfuls in his autobiography. The player’s action drew the ire of the fans who then demanded the captaincy to be taken from him. Although he has since apologised for his comments but rumors of an exit have already started.
While things have calmed down a bit after the apology, we all know that the next few months will be crucial to his future at Inter. If the Argentine put up a series of good performances for now, he could get the fans back on his side again but should his performances go the other way and his relationship get worse, Inter Milan could be forced to consider a sale.
However there is a problem, the striker recently signed a new contract with a €110m release clause which would put off any club that is interested in his services.
According to Tuttosport via Sports Witness, Ourselves and Tottenham could be interested in signing the striker but not at that price.
For now, I am unsure if we are interested in signing a striker who is always surrounded with controversies. Even though we are, his price would have to be realistic for us to make a move. The report even acknowledged that by claiming if the Serie A club were to sell the striker, they’d have to come up with a ‘human’ price.
Icardi is a very talented striker, but we would like to think his boat sailed away in the summer. With the capture of Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna, we don’t expect Wenger to move for a striker next summer unless the numerous options we currently have disappoints us this season and even at that I don’t think Icardi will be a good fit for us.
