Arsenal and Manchester United are set to battle for the signature of Manchester City outcast Yaya Toure, according to reports.
Toure has been frozen out of the first-team by Guardiola who told him in the summer that he wasn’t part of his plans. The midfielder was unable to secure a summer move away from the Etihad and was hoping to win his manager’s heart but he has been unable to do so. A move away from the Etihad now looks like his only option and the Emirates is being touted as a potential destination.
Toure established himself as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders prior to Guardiola’s arrival and it is expected that he will not be short of offers in the winter transfer window but Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato via the Daily Star suggests Manchester City as well as ourselves are amongst the clubs keen on the midfielder.
It’s a bit surprising that we are being linked with the midfielder especially when we have more than enough midfield options available to us.
Toure’s age should also be a stumbling block to a potential move to Arsenal because, at 33 years of age, he is only going to be on the decline now. He has played just one game for Manchester City this season and will definitely struggle with fitness should he move to another club. Moreover, at his age he is unlikely to return to the same level he was in previous seasons so I don’t think it’s worth the gamble.
