Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman has criticized Wenger for his failure to sign a world-class striker in the summer.

The ex-Liverpool man was speaking on our goalless draw with Middlesbrough on Saturday and he believes the lack of a prolific striker cost us all three points in the game.

Of a truth, one can’t really fault McManamman’s claim because our boys were almost perfect in defense and midfield but got it all wrong in the final third. We could have done better with more quality movement in the box and clinical finishing.

We signed Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna in August but the Spaniard has started just one Premier League game for us which was against Southampton in September. He was brought on Midway into the second half against Boro to help change the situation but didn’t make any impact and Mcmanaman has slammed our transfer policy.

“At the start of every season we discuss Arsenal’s transfer policy,” McManaman told BT Sport .

“I’ve said for years that I thought they should get a better centre- forward. They’ve brought in Lucas Perez but he hasn’t been playing.

“Olivier Giroud is injured. Alexis Sanchez has done well but I still don’t think it’s good enough.

“I think they should have bought a super-star centre-forward.”

One can’t really blame Wenger, the will was there to sign a top striker in the summer as was obvious in our pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gonzalo Higuain and Antoine Greizmann but the high rate of inflation in the transfer market made it difficult for us to lure our top targets.

However, I’m confident Sanchez,Giroud and Perez have the quality to lead us to the Premier League title this season.
