Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas believes we are the favourites to win this year’s league title.

The former Arsenal forward was speaking prior to the game against Reading and claimed there is so much quality in our squad to see us through the entire campaign. Several fringe players were given the opportunity to impress against The Royals on Tuesday and they all took their chances, dispatching the Championship side with ease.

Nicholas was in awe of the quality within our squad, suggesting we are in the strongest position to win the league this season. The former forward’s statement comes just a day after Wenger revealed in our AGM meeting that we have the strongest squad in recent seasons to challenge for trophies

“Arsenal have got the strongest squad in Premier League,” Nicholas told Sky Sports, as quoted by The Daily Star.

“The sort of players who come in here are experienced and should be ready to step up for the first team and seize on a disappointing result at the weekend.

“Olivier Giroud will probably get a run out and you’ve also got Lucas Perez, Kieran Gibbs, David Ospina, Rob Holding and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is looking more influential.”

We last won the title 12 years ago and one can give different reasons why we have failed in the title race all these years. One of the most cospicuous reasons was our inconsistency. We failed to deliver when it mattered most and that was largely down to the lack of experience players in our squad. Thankfully we have struck a balance between experience and youthfulness within the squad this year and hopefully, our experience will see us through the tough part of the season as we aim to lift the title at the end of the year.
