Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.
Arsenal star Alex Iwobi has revealed that he was close to joining London rivals West Ham United at a point in his career.
The midfielder who has enjoyed a meteoric rise to Arsenal first team in the last one year has revealed that he would have been playing for West Ham had it not been his love for our club.
Wenger promoted Iwobi to the first team at the beginning of last season and the midfielder immediately made an impression in the team. He has gone on to become a key player for us, starting six of our nine league games this season. He has now revealed he could have been facing Arsenal instead of playing for the club, had he made a different decision when he was younger.
Iwobi claimed: “Arsenal and West Ham were interested in me and Chuba [Akpom], so we were training with both clubs for three years, because we were scouted at six and you can’t sign until you’re nine.
“I decided to sign for Arsenal because I supported them back then and I always saw them as the bigger club – no disrespect to West Ham.”
I’m sure every Gooner out there will be excited that Iwobi made a decision to join us instead of the other way round.
We are a club that has a long-standing tradition of producing youngsters for the first team and Iwobi has proven to be the best in recent years. He currently represents our tradition and we are hoping he continues to perform well for us.
